Thank you
As of the writing of this post, my first video has 164 views and my channel has 26 subscribers. I’m truly blown away. Since I started working on this in November 2018, I have been trying to temper my expectations. I know these numbers are small in the grand scheme of youtube, but for me they’re huge. I honestly thought that basically no one would see my content, at least at first.
Posting this video came one day after we brought my dad to palliative care where he will live the rest of his days in this world after a year long battle with cancer. To say this week has been an emotional roller coaster is probably the biggest understatement I’ve ever made in my life. March 31st was also my grandfather’s birthday who passed away in 2002. His birthday is always at the top of my mind at this time of year because my family has been using it as a marker for when winter is finally over in Toronto. “It always snows at least once after Grandpa’s birthday”. I’ve been winning bets with this phrase for 17 years.
When I was young, my parents would bring me to my grandparents’ house and I would bake desserts with my grandma and bake bread with my Grandpa. We’d have soup and salmon sandwiches for lunch and then I’d have a nap. I miss them so much and I think of my grandfather every time I make bread.
So thank you, to everyone who watched, liked, subscribed, shared, tweeted and followed. And thank you to everyone who has encouraged me and said how much they like my video. I’m overjoyed that I have an audience, no matter how small, to share the things my family has taught me.
